In therapeutic counselling, we don’t focus on what’s “wrong” with a person, but what happened to them to form their beliefs and behaviours. This distinction matters, as it shifts the focus away from diagnosis and labels, towards understanding and making sense of how your experiences have shaped the way you think, feel and cope today.
I’m not here to label you, or to fit your experience into a category or a box. I’ll see you as a whole person, not as a set of symptoms to be managed or a problem to be solved.
Counselling is about feeling understood and finding understanding within yourself.
Therapeutic counselling is a collaborative talk therapy where you explore difficult emotions and past experiences with a trained, professional counsellor.
Rather than being told what to think or do, you work with your counsellor to develop better, healthier coping mechanisms and strategies to achieve personal insight and move forward from limiting self-beliefs or harmful thought patterns.
It’s different from speaking to a friend or family member about how we’re doing as it comes without the history or expectations that often shape those conversations. Here, the focus stays on you.
We’ll develop a relationship built on trust and respect to create a foundation for our sessions. I aim to help you uncover your own answers and solutions to the challenges you’re facing, at a pace that feels right for you.
Sessions are led by what feels most relevant to you each week, rather than following a fixed programme. We’ll continue to check in regularly on whether the work still matches what you need.
Together, we’ll find out what you really need, what you want and how you might get there. This isn’t a process with a fixed script, it’s shaped by you, your experiences, and what feels most useful at each stage.
The aim of therapeutic counselling is for you to leave sessions feeling a little clearer, a little lighter and better equipped to navigate whatever you’re facing.
I offer a free 15-minute consultation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, share a little about what brings you to counselling, and see whether working together feels like a good fit. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.
Individual therapeutic counselling sessions for individuals last 55 minutes and cost £55 per session.
Everyone is different and moves at their own pace, so the frequency of sessions can be tailored to you. Most people find that meeting weekly helps build and maintain momentum, particularly in the earlier stages of the work.
Sessions are available in-person in central Maidenhead or online via Microsoft Teams, whichever feels most comfortable and practical for you. There’s no pressure to commit to a set number of sessions upfront, we’ll review how things are going together as we progress, and you’re always free to adjust the pace to suit what’s right for you.
Please contact me if you’d like to book a free 15-minute consultation.
