How do I choose the right counsellor in Maidenhead, Berkshire?

Choosing a counsellor is a personal decision, and it’s normal to feel unsure about where to start.

When looking for a therapeutic counsellor in Maidenhead there are a few practical things to consider, such as:

Are they registered with a recognised body such as the BACP?

Do they have the proper qualifications to offer counselling?

Do their areas of experience match what you’re going through?

Are their location, availability and fees workable for you?

Counselling relies on feeling safe enough to be open and honest, so it’s worth paying attention to how a counsellor makes you feel. Do they seem approachable? Do they listen without judgement or advice?

Many counsellors, such as myself, offer a free, short consultation so you can get a feel for whether they’re right for you.

Does therapeutic counselling help with anxiety?

Yes, therapeutic counselling can help manage symptoms of anxiety and help treat the cause. By talking through what thoughts or situations trigger your anxiety, and learning grounding techniques such as breathing exercises, counselling can be an effective treatment for anxiety.

Can therapeutic counselling help with childhood trauma?

Therapeutic counselling can help with childhood trauma by providing a safe and empathetic space for you to talk through painful memories that are difficult to process. Therapeutic counselling can also help reduce emotional distress and help you learn new, healthy ways of coping.

Can therapeutic counselling help with grief and loss of a loved one?

Yes, counselling can help you adjust to life after a major change such as losing a loved one. It can be especially helpful if you are finding things difficult and need to talk through confusing emotions such as anger.
